Our Story

Smart was born in 1978 (the first Smart in the world) from the innovative idea of its founder Renato Merlini, who wanted to give new application to his family’s historical business operating in the textile hemp industry.

He thus founded a verticalized, self-sufficient company capable of starting from raw material and obtaining finished product without external requirements.

The flagship is the dye shop, which allows custom colors to be made within the time frame of standard colors.

FROM PROTOTYPE TO PRODUCTION

Before starting mass production, the prototype is first subjected to all laboratory tests and then put to the test by our industrial partners, especially those with special sewing machines. Only then is the go-ahead given to start production.
